Indulgence Passage to the Falkland Islands.

For Holders of the South Atlantic Medal

General Information and Method of Application.

1. On 10 January 2008 the under-Secretary of State agreed to extend the use of indulgence passage to the Falkland Islands on aircraft of the RAF and other MOD chartered aircraft to certain categories of veterans of the 1982 'South Atlantic Conflict'.

2. This scheme is restricted solely to holders of the 'South Atlantic Medal' and does not include next-of-kin, other family members, partners or carers.

3. Applicants do not have to be Members of the South Atlantic Medal Association 1982.

4. This scheme is to be sponsored and administered by SAMA82.

5. The very first southbound flight departed on Thursday 4 September 2008.

6. Veterans of the 1982 conflict who wish to return to the Falkland Islands are hereby encouraged to use the SAMA82 sponsored indulgence scheme and should apply for an application form in writing to the address below.

7. Applicants should be aware that the submission of an indulgence request does not in anyway infer that an indulgence passage will be granted.

A rumour has been circulating suggesting that the cost of a return flight was to increase too £200.00. 

This is untrue!!

The RAF finance officer responsible for setting the Air Fare has confirmed that the cost will remain the same each way until further notice.

The sponsor will inform all 'if' any changes are made.

Indulgence granted = 22

Failed to report = 1

Passage offered, unable to travel = 3

Not offered travel = 7

Applicants waiting travel - Feb & March 2009 = 16

 All holders of the South Atlantic Medal are encouraged to use this excellent resources as it is without doubt the best and most convenient way to get back to the the islands at minimal cost

Discipline

Under no circumstances should you turn up for your flight either out bound or homeward bound drunk.  If you do! YOU will be off loaded and left to find your own way home and this facility will not be made available to you again.
